Share your home with a self-advocate!
You must have a spare bedroom or a similar space available for the individual to use. This space must have a functioning lock on both the bedroom and bathroom doors. There must be working fire alarms & extinguishers. Home inspections will be conducted during the interview process.
This is a contracted position. HP’s will receive a monthly stipend that is tax exempt. Pay is based on the needs of the advocate. Willingness to perform personal care, behavioral support, and travel around Windham County is recommended.
*Home Providers should be located in the state of Vermont, ideally within 45 minutes of Brattleboro or Bennington.
Otherwise known as Banyan House. This is a 24/7 residential support program for up to two youths living with disabilities in DCF custody.
An essential aspect of the program is cultivating connection, using trauma-informed care practices, and balancing fun and life skills. Staff promote daily living skills, independence, community engagement, and provide overall emotional/behavioral support. Comfort with hygiene assistance is recommended.
Candidates must be 21 years of age, and have a Bachelor’s degree and/or 2 years experience working with youth. Fingerprinting is required. Shifts are 12 hours. Staff hired for this role may be asked to occasionally fill in for open DSP positions.
Support youth and adults living with disabilities. This position is staffed 1:1.
Staff support Self-advocates in community, employment, and home settings. Staff assist Self-advocates with daily living, problem-solving, and communication skills.
This position involves helping individuals with occasional hygiene and behavior related care, and medication administration. Knowledge of American Sign Language is recommended, but not required.
Similar to the Direct Support Position. Self-advocates in need of support have more complex medical and/or behavioral needs. Training for certain special care procedures will be provided. Shifts for this role are typically longer as the individuals in need of support are part of 24/7 staff models.
Candidates for this position are required to be comfortable with all forms of personal care such as toileting, showering, and medication administration. Ability to provide physical assistance or operate a hoyer lift is encouraged, but not required. Crisis Prevention, trauma informed care, and conflict resolution knowledge is highly recommended.
In addition to at least one regular DSP shift, this position consists of being on call for 24 hours (9am-9am). The position requires knowledge in supporting individuals experiencing crisis; whether it be medical, behavioral, or just filling vacancies.
Candidates must be comfortable with providing personal/hygiene related care, medication administration, and physical assistance. Staff will likely work with the majority of self-advocates at Families First.
Candidates must have excellent communication, be flexible, and willing to travel throughout Windham County.
Respite Providers support an advocate living with disabilities in their home, or in another space, ideally in Windham/Bennington County, Vermont. This can be for one weekend per month or more, hourly, and/or daily. Respite is typically provided in partnership with a Home Provider or Guardian.
Please note that Families First does not hire for Respite directly. As such we cannot extend benefits or training. We will pass along applications for Respite to Home Providers & Service Coordinators who have a need.
